A learning management system (LMS) is a software application or Web-based technology used to plan, implement and assess a specific learning process. Learning management system provides an instructor with a way to create and deliver content, monitor student participation and assess student performance. A learning management system also provides students with the ability to use interactive features such as threaded discussions, video conferencing and discussion forums.

The students enrolled under online mode of IMA will be allotted a personalized user id and password through which they can access various features of the LMS at IMA, which include;

  • The syllabus for the course.
  • Administrative information including the location of sessions, credit information and how to get help.
  • A notice board for up-to-date course information.
  • Student registration and tracking facilities.
  • Basic teaching materials, the complete content of the course, copies of visual aids used in lectures, assignments and tutorials.
  • Additional resources, including reading materials, and links to outside resources in libraries and on the Internet.
  • Question bank and Model Question papers for each course.
  • Self-assessment quizzes which can be scored automatically.
  • Formal assessment procedures.
  • Electronic communication support including e-mail, threaded discussions and a chat room.

The pedagogy followed at IMA ensures and emphasizes the conceptual understanding of the subject. Self instruction material (SIM) and Computer Based Tutorials (CBTs)/ Web Based Tutorials (WBTs) are provided to the students. The students are encouraged to inculcate the self instructive methodology, along with continuous support from the faculty through various collaborative tools like Chat, Discussion Forum, Email, Announcements, Newsletter, Multimedia Courseware and Online Library.

Collaborative Tools

  • Chat: This tool is useful when a student wishes to interact with the faculty by exchanging written messages in real-time, for which both the student and the faculty needs to log on to the LMS( link) at a pre-determined schedule.
  • Discussion Forum:This tool is useful when a student wishes to interact with the faculty and other students by exchanging messages in real-time, for which all the participants need to log on to the LMS at a pre-determined schedule. The students can write in their queries in the forum under a specific subject category. The faculty and other students can reply to the queries posted by different students on the forum.
  • E-Mail: This tool is useful when a student wishes to interact with the faculty, by sending him/her a written message, which shows up in the inbox of the faculty when he logs on to the LMS. The faculty reads the message and replies. The faculty reads the message and replies. The faculty may forward these students' messages/ queries to other students or faculty members for their views, comments or reference.
  • Announcements: Announcements is a tool which is useful to convey important information to the students
  • Newsletters: Newsletters are the publications of the events happening in the IMA.
  • Multimedia Courseware: Multi-media courseware is the study material provided on the website through the LMS to all the students enrolling under the Online Programme. A student can access this courseware through the user-name and password given to him/ her at the time of admission.

Online Library: Online Library is a wide collection of online links to various journals and e-books that a student may use as reference material apart from the study material provided, in the form of SIM, CBTs, and WBTs.
